If it’s happened in goal umpiring, you can bet Adam Gardner, or Gards as we all call him, has been there, done that! After an impressive goal umpiring career spanning over 119 games including stints in the NEAFL and AFLW competitions, Gards is finally calling it a day. It’s the end of an era, and what a legendary one it’s been!
Gards has been an unsung hero of our squad, standing tall behind the goals with a keen eye for the perfect barrel-chested signal and attention grabbing calls for ‘MINE!’. We can’t possibly forget his signature dry wit—Gards has always been ready with a clever remark with a quick joke on gameday or keeping everyone on their toes in our regular coaching sessions. A true local of the bayside area, Gards always seemed to find his way back to Frankston Park, almost as if he had a patrol route mapped out.
As Gards puts away his flags and steps away from the umpiring spotlight, we want to extend our best wishes for his future endeavours. We know he’ll be diving into new challenges with the same enthusiasm and dedication he showed behind the goals. And let’s not forget his growing family — how many kids is it now, 8? — so here’s to more quality time with them and new adventures ahead!
Congratulations on a remarkable career, Gards!
