A Tribute to Adam Bell: A Remarkable Career in VFL Boundary Umpiring

bell-adam8As the VFL season draws to a close, we bid farewell to one of the most dedicated and respected figures in the umpiring community—Senior Boundary Umpire Adam Bell. From 2009 to 2024, Adam has been a constant presence on the field, showcasing his unwavering commitment, athleticism, and professionalism over an impressive 15-year career.

Throughout his career, Adam officiated in 188 VFL games, a milestone that reflects his enduring dedication to the sport. His contributions to the game were recognized with the prestigious VFL life membership, a testament to his influence and longevity in the league. Among his many achievements, Adam also had the honour of officiating two TAC Cup Grand Finals, further solidifying his reputation as one of the top boundary umpires in the game

Known for his meticulous preparation, Adam is the epitome of discipline. Every training session, without fail, Adam would arrive fully geared up in compression wear, a reflection of his belief in maintaining peak physical condition. His commitment to fitness and recovery has not only prolonged his career but also set a standard for his fellow umpires.

One of the fondest memories shared by those who have worked with Adam is his 150th milestone game, as well as running in his final VFL game in Round 21. It was an occasion marked by pride and celebration, as Adam’s colleagues joined him on the field to honour his significant achievement. For those fortunate enough to umpire alongside him that day, the experience was a reminder of the camaraderie and respect Adam has always brought to the role.

As Adam steps off the field for the last time, we extend our heartfelt thanks for his contributions to the VFL. His impact on the game, both as an umpire and as a person, will be remembered for years to come. We wish Adam all the very best in his future endeavours, confident that the same qualities that made him an exceptional umpire will lead him to success in whatever path he chooses next
