The VFUA is deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of current Development Boundary umpire, Mitch Lea.
Mitch umpired his community footy at South Metro JFL and Southern FNL.
He was a member of the inaugural AFL Victoria V/Line Academy in 2020, and through that pathway, was promoted to the State League & Talent Pathway program in 2022.
Mitch was a quieter umpire, but that did not prevent him from being one of the friendliest people you’d ever meet, nor did it stop his ability and desire to learn and improve in his umpiring craft.
In his three seasons with the VFUA Mitch umpired 39 Coates Boys, 16 VFLW and 6 Coates Girls matches but his best day was his VFL debut as a late replacement in the Round 15 22 match between Richmond and Collingwood at Punt Road.
Everyone at the VFUA sends their condolences to Mitch’s family and friends, but also to his comrades in the Development Boundary squad.
If you or anyone you speak to needs assistance, please reach out to a member of the Executive or access the AFL’s Employee Assistance Program.
Vale Mitch Lea
