Trivia Night Review

Do you know the six tallest currently listed AFL players? How about the first team to win three consecutive premierships? 60 umpires took on the challenge at the VFUA trivia night on Saturday 18 June at Coopers Inn.

After 10 rounds of footy, music, general knowledge, family feud and cryptic puzzles, it was a very close, tough fought competition. The lead switched several times through the night (unlike the rather dull footy playing in the background – Fremantle vs. Port Adelaide and Australia vs. England in the rugby).

There was plenty of smack talk from the goal umpires. But ultimately it was the field umpires that came out on top. First prize went to the development field team Turner 53. Second prize went to the senior field Juiced Life team and third prize went to the senior goal umpires. Unofficial prizes: most drinks – Luke McIlroy; most confused – Leigh Keen (on winning various technological gadgets).

Honourable mentions to the raffle prize winners Daniel Butcher and Leigh Keen. And a dishonourable mention to Yippy Wong for his attempts to sell a chocolate bar: I doubt anyone in the room would have eaten the chocolate afterwards, but there’ll be queues out the door for his next stand-up performance.

turner tableCoopers Inn was an excellent venue providing space, screens, and most importantly, up to scratch parmas. We’ll be back there again soon for the Poker Night. Big thanks to Tony Hales for MC’ing the night and to all the sponsors and individuals who donated prizes – we raised $850 for the end of season function! And finally a shout out to the VFUA social crew of Tyler Hankinson and Pat Burns for organising another fantastic trivia night!
