Tuesday night at Victoria Park was a big night. In addition to the announcement of the Grand Final umpires, the respective squad’s Umpire of the Year was presented.
The awards saw 3 umpires win the award for the first time, and unsurprisingly all will officiate in the VFL Grand Final – also for the first time.
The winners are:
Field: Jack Edwards
Boundary: James Scully
Goal: Matt Dervan
For Jack and James, the awards represent an ascension to the top of their fields over several years at the VFL, and are a great reward for a lot of hard work and consistency. For Matt, the award caps a whirlwind 12 months after he was named emergency for the TAC Cup grand final in 2013 in his first year and will now officiate in the biggest game of his career on Sunday.
The VFUA congratulates all of these umpires for this year’s achievements.
